Have you ever thought about the first four words of the Bible? “In the beginning God….” God begins His Word with the fundamental understanding that He exists. This is reassurance, this is relief! Why? Because I don’t have to understand everything about God. God wants us to rest and trust in Him. Besides, if I understood everything about Him, then He would not be worth worshipping.

James tells us that even the devils know that God exists, and they tremble because they understand what that means for them! The Psalmist even goes so far as to call out anyone who denies God’s existence—he calls them fools.

God not only exists; He is in control. Sometimes we lose sight of this because we see the craziness of the world around us. We don’t fully understand what is going on, and we don’t have to. Now look at the end of your Bible, where Jesus says, “Surely I come quickly!” And the next five words are our mantra in this crazy world: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

Does God exist? Most certainly. Is He in control? Most definitely.

Trust Him today and rest in His sovereignty.
